Race timing systems

The basic system consists of Computer with racing software, Transponder decoder and Detection Loop

Plus racing transponder fitted in or on each vehicle or person racing

When transponder passes over the Detection loop the signal from the transponder is detected and passed on to the decoder

The decoder logs the transponder passing and sends data to the computer which is then processed by the racing software

Transponder Services does not normally sell complete timing systems - to find where to buy new systems see FAQ
However complete 2nd hand systems are occasionally made available via the Shop
Transponder Services does stock Detection Loop Kits and parts - see Shop

AMB8800 system with converter for RC race timing

AMB8800 race timing system

This is the very early analogue system that requires an interface card to be installed inside the computer

It is now very limited because it is only compatible with computers that have standard ISA slot and software no later than Windows 95

This was the predecessor to the AMB20 system

Many of these are still in use however if you are looking to buy a cheap 2nd system I suggest you do not consider it due to it's limitations

Starting at top left and going clockwise, components shown are...

AMB20 race timing system

AMB20 race timing decoder

This is an early analogue system still used widely for Remote Control car racing and Go Kart racing

Most AMB20 decoders only detect transponders numbered 1 to 10

Some rare systems detect transponder numbers 1 to 20

This is indicated by a label on the underside of the decoder

AMB20 transponder charging rack

Charging rack loaded with 2 sets of AMB20 transponders numbered 1 to 10

Transponders have rechargeable batteries sealed inside

AMB20 Loop Interface Box

Analogue Loop Interface Box

This box contains electronics vital for the interface between the coax cable to the decoder and the loop wire in the raceway

Features binding posts for connection of loop wire and female BNC connection for 75 ohm coax cable
