Less than 8 hours indicates the battery should be replaced.
Battery voltage reading across the metal terminals on the transponder should remain at or above 1.15 Volts DC for at least 8 hours after a full charge.

Further info

This transponder is designed for club and track ownership and used in all types of Remote Control model car racing and rental go kart racing. The internal battery is a rechargeable type and will last for many years if cared for correctly. Eventually the transponder battery wears out. This is indicated by the transponder not running at all or not long enough. It is advised that if the AMB20 transponder will not run for at least 8 hours then it is time to have the batteries replaced. Failing batteries can leak chemicals and internally damage the transponder without showing any signs of damage externally. So we recommend not leaving it too long before you have the battery replaced. Do not over charge. Transponder batteries in good condition can run for up to 24 hours or more. AMB Mylaps do not make or supply this type of transponder and decoders anymore. The AMB20 timing system was superceded by the AMBrc system which is now the Mylaps RC4 system.
